Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Operations Engineer to join our team at our Richmond, California headquarters. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in mechanical manufacturing engineering, with hands-on experience managing production lines and driving operational excellence in manufacturing environments.
This role will be central in supporting product development, leading New Production Introduction (NPI), overseeing Pegasus’s in-house manufacturing and assembly operations, and managing our U.S. supply chain.
The ideal candidate will seamlessly transition between engaging Pegasus Product Development Engineers to refine technical designs that can be automated for domestic production, to designing and commissioning in-house manufacturing cells, to supporting supplier PPAP line qualifications, to working with the Head of Manufacturing & Supply Chain to develop suitable manufacturing and sourcing supply plans to ensure Pegasus’s ever growing customer demands are met.
Key Responsibilities
1. New Product Introduction (NPI) & Product Development Support
- Partner with product development teams to design for manufacturability (DFM) for high-volume manufacturing processes like stamping, roll forming, extrusions, die castings
- Lead process development, tooling validation, and pilot production runs for new products.
- Ensure smooth transition from prototyping to full-scale high volume production.
2. Manufacturing & Assembly Operations
- Oversee daily operations of Pegasus’s in-house manufacturing and assembly lines.
- Troubleshoot technical production issues and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on efficiency, quality, and throughput.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and support quality management activities.
- Train Pegasus operations staff in manufacturing and quality best practices.
3. Supply Chain & Supplier Management
- Identify, audit, and qualify U.S.-based suppliers for metals and plastics manufacturing processes (extrusion, stamping, casting, cold forged hardware, injection molding).
- Oversee tooling qualification, supplier capability assessments, and production line validation.
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve production issues and improve overall performance.
- Support Pegasus’s global manufacturing team and supply chain activities.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing) or equivalent proven work experience as a skilled Journeyman or Master Manufacturing Tradesman (Machinist, Foundryman, Molder, Die Maker, Tool Builder, Automation, etc.)
Experience:
- ~10 years of relevant professional work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience overseeing high-volume manufacturing lines in aluminum extrusion, roll forming, metal stamping, casting, cold forging, or plastic injection molding.
- Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience with production automation.
- Professional fluency with Office, Project, 3D Modeling CAD/CAM (e.g. Solidworks or Fusion), PLM, and ERP (e.g Netsuite) software platforms.
Certifications (preferred):
- Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE)
- Lean Six Sigma training and certification.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of mechanical manufacturing processes.
- Must be comfortable in a manufacturing shop environment with hands on experience setting up and operating machine tools.
- Proven track record of driving process improvements and reducing costs.
- Supplier management, auditing, and qualification experience. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-driven, self-motivated w/ strong decision-making skills.
- Great team player with strong ethical center.
Languages: Multi-lingual candidates highly desired, especially Spanish and/or Chinese.
Travel: Willingness to travel periodically (primarily within the U.S.) for supplier visits and audits.
