THE JOB
The Vice President of Sourcing will report directly to the President of the company. This senior-level role collaborates with all levels of the organization, including Operations, Sales, Engineering, Quality Control, Marketing, and Finance.
The Vice President will lead a team responsible for all aspects of procurement and material control, overseeing commodity spend, supplier development, material cost and pricing, ERP systems, data integrity, and bill of materials management.
This leader will be a visionary procurement strategist and change agent, responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that:
- Reduce total cost
- Improve supplier quality and reliability
- Strengthen data accuracy and readiness
- Establish consistent procurement policies and processes
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage the full material control process, including procurement, inventory management, and bill of material costing.
- Assess existing procurement systems and methodologies to identify improvement opportunities; gain a deep understanding of all purchased materials and supplier relationships.
- Ensure all material purchases meet defined quality standards and monitor internal satisfaction with procurement services.
- Increase buying leverage through supplier rationalization and intra-company aggregation; drive competitive negotiation to achieve cost savings.
- Optimize inventory investments by shortening order-to-delivery cycles, streamlining processes, and minimizing inaccuracies.
- Develop and implement standardized, automated reorder procedures, as well as contingency and supplier backup programs.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers.
- Implement standardized delivery procedures for just-in-time stocking items.
- Drive material planning to achieve target inventory turns while minimizing shortages or delays.
- Oversee inventory controls to ensure accuracy and accountability.
- Maximize ERP system capabilities to ensure data readiness, accurate costing, and reliable bill of materials at both item and finished-product levels.
- Provide strong leadership through coaching, mentoring, training, and talent development.
- Promote a culture of accountability and measurable results through strategic deployment and performance management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, Business Administration, Finance, or related discipline required.
- Master’s degree (MBA) or certifications such as CPM, APICS, or Six Sigma/Lean methodologies preferred.
- 12–15 years of progressive experience managing supply chain, procurement, and sourcing in a large manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of direct management experience leading procurement teams.
- Proven success driving cost reduction, supplier improvement, and sourcing strategy implementation.
- Supply chain management certification preferred.
- Strong analytical and technical skills, with the ability to identify automation and process improvement opportunities.
- Advanced computer skills and ERP system fluency (experience with data management and integration highly beneficial).
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience implementing Lean enterprise principles and continuous improvement practices.
- Creative problem solver with the ability to evaluate complex issues and develop innovative solutions.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
