Responsibilities
- You will perform a variety of administrative, technical, and clerical support services for the South Carolina Fire Academy campus and Region 0.
- You will coordinate the student registration process for both the resident catalog, National Fire Academy (NFA) courses, and Region 0 courses.
- You will process student registrations, verify prerequisites and receipt of required documentation, build course packages, and notify students and departments of acceptance or denial of course registration.
- You will process course packages, requests for billing, prepare test boxes for course evaluation, and prepare requested course summaries.
- You will monitor enrollment and notify the appropriate course coordinator of enrollment numbers at the cut-off date.
- You will perform a variety of other duties such as responding to requests from students and departments, coordinating with cafeteria staff to ensure correct student counts are reported, and serve as a backup to the Division receptionist.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- A high school diploma and four years of responsible clerical, secretarial, and administrative experience.
- Ability to apply and interpret policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
- Ability to manage a high number of diverse courses simultaneously.
- Strong time management skills to monitor course schedules.
- Strong database entry skills, phone skills, and knowledge of Microsoft products.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent customer service skills, particularly when interacting with fire service personnel, students, customers, and campus visitors.
Other Requirements
- Position works in an office environment with extended periods of sitting and standing.
- May require occasional work outside of normal office hours.
- May be required to lift, carry, move and/or position objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Daily filing, data entry, telephone and computer use.
