Role Overview
As a
Genetic Counseling Assistant , you will provide essential administrative and patient support to BayCare's Genetic Counseling team. You will coordinate appointments, manage referrals, and assist with pre-authorization and medical record collection. This role also supports patients directly by handling inquiries, facilitating follow-up, and assisting with documentation and testing workflows. Strong communication skills and knowledge of medical terminology are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Genetic Counselor with administrative and patient care tasks.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments, manage referrals, and coordinate follow-up.
- Obtain patient consent, records, testing information, and insurance pre-authorization.
- Assist patients with inquiries, follow-up communications, and escorting when applicable.
- Enter patient data and results into tracking systems and databases.
- Complete testing order entry and prepare documents for EMR scanning.
- Collaborate with counselors, clinicians, and patients to facilitate clear communication and smooth clinic operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Science or related field
- Experience
- Required: 1 year related experience (may substitute for Bachelor's degree)
- Preferred: 1 year healthcare or medically related experience
