The Nursing Administrator is responsible for overseeing the nursing staff of Corrections Health Services and assuring consistent quality care is provided to the inmate population of the Orange County Jail.
Job Description
General Functions:
The Health Services Administrator will oversee clinical and operational areas of Corrections Health Services. Major responsibilities include oversight of Nursing, Quality and Accreditation, Risk Management, Medical Records, Supplies, Infection Control and Payroll.
Representative Duties/Assignments:
Manage and direct all medical, mental health, administrative and fiscal operations such as staff assignments, patient care delivery systems and purchases.
Identify service needs or delivery methods where improvements are required.
Responsible for various personnel matters including hiring, discipline, training and development, performance appraisals and related activities.
Coordinate care with outside specialists for specialized care.
Develop new programs for the delivery of patient medical care.
Negotiate rates with private physicians and hospitals for services rendered.
Develop and monitor capital budget in order to project and deliver service requirements within fiscal capabilities and policies.
Serve as arbitrator to resolve conflicts with patients, physicians or staff.
Acts as the designated Responsible Health Authority (RHA) for the division.
Oversee daily operations of the nursing department
Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures
Manage nursing staff schedules and assignments
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards
Collaborate with medical and administrative staff to ensure coordinated quality patient care
Monitor patient care quality and implement improvements
Reruit, train, and evaluate nursing personnel
Manage departmental budget and resources
Resolve conflicts and address staff concerns
Address any nursing-related complaints or issues
Maintain accurate records and documentation
Promote a culture of safety and excellence in care
Participate in strategic planning and decision making
Perform other duties of a comparable level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Master's degree from an accredited institution in Health Services Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or Health Information Management and three years of progressively responsible experience in health services management; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Nursing, Health Services Administration Business Administration, or Health Information Management and five years of progressively responsible experience in health services management; or graduation from an accredited Nursing program and five years of supervisory experience in nursing.
Preferences:
- Experience in a correctional environment
- Proficiency in electronic health records
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards

Pay Grade: 024 - From $49.12 to $63.86
