Summary/Objective
The Plant Manager position directs and manages all aspects of manufacturing plant operations, with overall responsibilities for safety, quality, production, human resources, purchasing, inventory, maintenance, P&L management and other production-related duties. Ensure understanding of the business plan and sales forecast while improving efficiencies and reducing costs to maximize profits. Plant Manager is responsible to maintain proper inventory controls and works closely with receiving department, the Inventory Control Manager and Cost Accounting to ensure inventory accuracy.
Corsicana Mattress is a high-volume mattress manufacturing company. We have a variety of machinery including but not limited to: sewing machines, packing machines, high speed quilters, and foam cutting equipment.
Essential Functions
- Direct and manage manufacturing plant operations for production, maintenance, quality shipping and receiving.
- Coordinate plant activities through planning with departmental managers to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Develop and control profits, plans and budget.
- Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries.
- Manage capital asset maintenance.
- Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
- Provide leadership within the plant and its employees through effective objective setting, delegation, communication and an overall hands-on approach.
- Work with corporate managers on larger scale projects.
- Provide answers and accountability on recruiting.
- Control and minimize labor overtime.
- Maintain existing plant facility and equipment; replace or make adjustments to plant facility and equipment when necessary.
- Provide leadership and training to accomplish company goals and objectives.
- Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs.
- Provide corporate management with creative and innovative ideas on ways to make the company better.
- Communicate with other plant managers on best practices sharing ideas throughout the organization.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- Incorporate shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel.
- Provide direction, development and leadership to production supervisors
- Responsible for maintaining proper inventory controls throughout the plant.
- Responsible for doing cycle counts of raw materials.
- Ensure that returned goods are accounted for on a daily basis.
- Responsible for maintaining information on scraps and/or substitutions to ensure inventory is accurate. Communicate any adjustments that need to be made to Cost Accounting accordingly.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Receiving to ensure timely availability of raw materials.
- Identify and implement process enhancements to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work
This is a full-time position and working weekends and evenings/nights can often be required based on production demand.
Travel
Typically, overnight travel is limited to once or twice per quarter but can be more frequent based on leadership needs.
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field (experience in lieu of degree accepted).
- 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing plant management.
- 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing operations.
- Illustrate career progression within company.
- Financial Acumen.
- Computer Literate (i.e., Microsoft Office).
