About the Role:
The Extruder Area Manager is a key leader within the operations team, responsible for overseeing the entire Extrusion department. This role ensures that daily operations align with Suzano’s standards of safety, quality, sustainability, and operational excellence. The Extruder Area Manager leads frontline teams and supervisors, manages departmental KPIs, collaborates cross-functionally, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. This position is ideal for a proactive, strategic leader who thrives in fast-paced production environments and is passionate about developing people and driving results.
What You’re Going to Do:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Extrusion department, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and cost targets are consistently met or exceeded.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of frontline supervisors, operators, and technicians to build a high-performing, engaged workforce.
- Manage daily production planning and execution, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer expectations.
- Oversee departmental KPIs (OEE, scrap, throughput, downtime, etc.) and implement corrective actions to address performance gaps.
- Collaborate closely with Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams to ensure production reliability and product compliance.
- Drive and champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and operational efficiency.
- Support and enforce environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
- Optimize use of raw materials, including LDPE and specialty resins, ensuring inventory accuracy and waste reduction.
- Lead or support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and process improvements.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, team meetings, and training to promote a culture of accountability and development.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets and forecasts in alignment with plant leadership.
What We Expect from You:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field (required).
- 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing leadership role, ideally within extrusion, converting, or similar continuous operations.
- Demonstrated success in managing teams, budgets, and operational metrics in a complex production environment.
- Strong understanding of safety, environmental, and quality management systems (e.g., ISO, GMP).
- Skilled in production planning, performance tracking, and root cause analysis.
- Proven ability to lead change, improve processes, and develop high-performing teams.
- Proficient in SAP, Microsoft Office, and manufacturing reporting tools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, hands-on leadership style.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or Portuguese) is a plus but not required.
