Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides supportive patient care functions for Mohs Surgery Department in the clinic Surgical Area
- Provides supportive patient care functions under the supervision of a Mohs Surgeon, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Vocational Nurse, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational, and professional standards
- Some duties may be delegated to the Sr. Mohs Surgery Technician by the Surgeon
- This position requires additional duties which include administration of injectables and or other high-level skill performance
- The Mohs Surgery Technician requires additional duties which include demonstrating knowledge and scribing of medical terminology to assist in documentation during surgical office procedures
- May be asked to administer injectables and/or other high level skill performance: Set-up/assist with procedures, sterile field, cosmetic procedures, removal of sutures, sterilize instruments, and manage pathology log to make sure all results received and given to patients and treatments done

Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED from an accredited program and Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program or school
- Certified or Registered as a Medical Assistant, or Surgical Technician
- BLS Certification
- Complete department-specific program modules for medical assistants
- 4+ years of directly related experience as a KSC Mohs Surgery Technician, Certified or Registered as a medical assistant OR 4+ years of related surgical assistant experience
- Proven to complete the review/skill validation program within 90 days of hire into this role
- Proven ability to use equipment and related supplies for selected patient population
- Proven windows-based computer skills
- Proven basic Medical & Nursing terminology
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in a Mohs or Dermatology clinic or related department
- Ambulatory Care experience
- EPIC experience
Essential Duties:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill needed to provide safe and effective care to facilitate the Mohs Surgical Department provider's practices which includes:
- Assists surgeon in outpatient office-based surgery
- Assists Mohs surgeon throughout procedure with instruments and providing hands on assistance according to prescribed standards
- Dress and provide wound care instruction for the surgery site
- Injection of Lidocaine for local anesthesia in superficial areas
- Surgical site scrub
- Vital signs
- Preparation and procedural set up for dry dressings
- Sterile fields setup for MOHS procedure
- Suture removal up to 10 cm
- Documentation of all medications and procedures
- Knows how to access the designated resource MD or RN
- Seeks clarification or guidance with questions related to medication administration from licensed staff
- Transport patients within facility as needed
- Perform CPR as needed and assist during times of emergency
- Patient/ Surgical and Cosmetic Care
- Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon
- Assists with Cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, Chemical Peels, etc.
- Able to assist with Laser skin procedures
- Compiles and prepares surgical packs.
- Runs autoclave as needed Document observations related to health status and report findings
- During Surgical/Cosmetic procedure takes photos of surgical stages or cosmetic before and after photos for Epic System- Haiku Application
- Scribe
- The Scribe works to facilitate patient flow through ambulatory clinics and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient
- In accordance with policy, prepares and assembles medical record documentation/chart for physician prior to and during patient visit. Ensures all documentation is accurate and timely
- The Scribe assists the medical provider by accompanying them during the surgical procedure
- Clerical
- Review doctor's schedule, abstract as needed, print PVS for each patient and request other relevant information needed for patient's visit that day
- Prepares and submits patient documents for scanning
- Monitor assigned in basket and complete work as needed-Overdue Results/Letters
- Schedule appointments and assist patients with specialty referrals and radiology testing
- Provide pre-printed patient educational material as directed by provider
- Proper disposal of confidential patient information -daily
- Follows HIPAA policy and procedures regarding patient confidentiality
- *Department Maintenance
- Monitor supplies, medications and forms and notifies appropriate staff when reorder needed
- Remove and tag broken equipment and notifies coordinator, supervisor, or manager
- Cleans exam rooms daily and documents on log
- Monitors supplies for expiration date and restock to par levels
- Perform sterilization of instruments, creating Mohs trays and instrument packs and complete logs (assignment based on completion of sterilization class and delegation by appropriate nursing staff)
- Attends staff meetings
- Maintain a clean and organized work area with a minimum of personal items

- Complete daily logs as assigned by nursing staff
