JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
Director of Supply Chain is an experienced leader that is responsible for planning and developing programs and processes to ensure material availability to support manufacturing production globally. This role reports to VP of Operations.
This hands-on Director manages and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in materials management including negotiating, purchasing, receiving, storing, distributing and scheduling raw materials globally. This position will help drive the strategic and tactical vision of the supply chain.
Essential Functions

- Ensure on time material availability to support operational production needs globally
- Negotiate and manage vendors to maximize costs and quality of supply
- Implement lean materials techniques including visual management, Kanban, JIT, 5S, etc.
- Identify and resolve raw material shortage problems.
- Report key performance indicators to management- PPV, days inventory on hand, inventory turns, vendor on time delivery, inventory dollars, etc.
- Develop and implement programs to optimize inventory turns and improve working capital performance.
- SNOP, SIOP experience (Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Forecasting, CAPA, etc)
- Responsible for budget development and attainment.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all inventory data.
- Assure on-time delivery from vendors.
- Identify and resolve process and system roadblocks in conjunction with manufacturing to improve productivity and throughput.
- Develop and implement programs to both monitor and control purchased part costs with the emphasis on cost downs, inventory reduction and quality improvement.
- Directly supervise purchasing, inventory control, and material handling employees.
- Conduct performance appraisals and provide ongoing coaching, training and feedback to team members.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices as demand changes.
- Arrange for disposal of surplus materials.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and manufacturing/distribution environment.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some activity is required. This would require the ability to lift, bend or stand as necessary.
Travel
This position requires up to 20% travel. Some of the travel is international.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in from a four-year college or university
- 8+ years of related experience of materials management and purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP systems is required
Preferred Education and Experience
- MBA or master’s degree.
- Related certifications commensurate with the role.
- Medical Device / Field experience is a plus.
- International materials management experience, preferably in Southeast Asia is a plus.
