Job Summary and Qualifications
The Director of Throughput coordinates patient flow through the hospital and clinical coordination of care across the continuum. Responsibilities will include developing length of stay (LOS) and resource reduction strategies, as well as capitalizing on facility best practices. The Director will also ensure that improvement opportunities are appropriately channeled to effect change, coordinate compliance initiatives with outside agencies, intervene with the hospitalists & PCP’s to address and resolve issues related to facility utilization and patient flow process and facilitate strong working relationship between caregivers, case management, and admitting departments to promote effective utilization management through coordination of efforts involving patient flow.
- You will evaluate and implement patient flow to ensure maximization of the hospital resources.
- You will continually evaluate, monitor and improve the patient flow program effectiveness as it relates to utilization review, resource management, and discharge planning and care coordination.
- You will establish patient flow goals in coordination with hospital executive management and monitor progress toward the goals through tracking tools such as NATE, ED dashboard and Teletracker.
- You will manage Patient Flow department to include development of proper staffing levels, management of expenses in line with budgeted expectations, development of appropriate departmental policies and hospital policies to address regulatory requirements, coordination of the hiring of developmental staff, assignment of duties, training and supervision of all members of the team. Facilitate the on-going training and education of staff to meet regulatory, hospital and department policies, as well as, completion of staff evaluations in accordance with hospital policy. Ensure staff practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy, “Mission and Value Statement” and the “ICARE” standards.
- You will oversee the Discharge Suite, transporter team, inpatient overflow department, and observation patients; ensures efficient hospital operations and communications.
- You will coordinate Medical Center Patient Flow responsibilities with the Case Management Director to ensure all patient flow needs of the Medical Center are met and to ensure similar policies and procedures are in place, as applicable.
- You will serve as the educational leader to physicians and employees as it relates to utilization review, resource management and patient flow.
- You will oversee the One Call transfer process and implement actions for increased throughput.
- You will demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
- You will perform other related duties as assigned or required.
What qualifications you will need:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a BSN degree required.
- A master’s degree from an accredited university in Nursing Administration, Business Administration or Hospital and Health Administration program preferred
- Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation. FT/PT/PRN colleagues with a compact license from a state other than Texas must: apply for Texas RN license within 60 days from hire obtain current TX RN license within 6 months of application for TX RN license
- BLS required per St. David’s HealthCare Policy
- National Specialty Certification preferred
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in critical care unit with 2 years’ experience in a supervisory/leadership position preferred.
