Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Endoscopy/Gastrointestinal (GI) Procedures Unit. The RN will provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures, including endoscopies, colonoscopies, and related interventions. This role requires strong clinical judgment, procedural expertise, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort throughout all phases of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pre-, intra-, and post-procedural nursing care for patients undergoing GI and endoscopic procedures.
- Prepare procedure rooms and assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic interventions.
- Administer and monitor conscious sedation, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout procedures.
- Perform IV insertion and phlebotomy for medication administration, sedation, and specimen collection.
- Assess, monitor, and document patient vital signs, responses, and recovery progress in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation and communication in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Collaborate closely with gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Adhere to all infection control, safety, and procedural standards within the unit.
- Provide patient and family education regarding pre-procedure preparation, post-procedure care, and discharge instructions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Active New York State (NYS) RN License – in good standing.
- Primary Source Verification of license and registration required.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
- Minimum 2 years of GI/Endoscopy nursing experience required.
- IV insertion and phlebotomy skills required.
- Conscious sedation experience required.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced procedural setting.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Must maintain all required certifications and continuing education as per hospital and state guidelines.
