About the Role
We’re looking for a Head of Operations to take our hardware from prototype to full-scale production. You’ll work closely with our engineering team to design production tooling and jigs, identify and qualify contract manufacturers, and manage the full manufacturing lifecycle. This role combines technical understanding of embedded systems with hands-on coordination of vendors, materials, and schedules to ensure smooth, high-yield production.
This is a contracted role, with a starting contract of at least 6 months, with the hopes of conversion to permanent staff.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with design engineers to bring products to production readiness, including DFM reviews, fixture and jig design, and test process development.
- Identify, evaluate, and manage contract manufacturers and suppliers to establish a costed BOM and multiple MP candidates.
- Negotiate quotes, lead times, and terms with vendors to ensure reliable and cost-effective supply.
- Oversee material procurement, incoming inspection, and logistics to keep builds on schedule.
- Collaborate with CMs to load designs, track yields, and implement corrective actions for quality issues.
- Maintain production schedules and manage fulfillment to keep customer lead times within spec.
- Continuously refine manufacturing processes to improve yield, reduce cost, and shorten cycle times.
What You’ll Bring
- 3–7+ years experience in hardware manufacturing, operations, or NPI (title flexible for experience).
- Familiarity with PCB/PCBA processes.
- Experience sourcing and managing electronics vendors or CMs, including quoting and production oversight.
- Strong understanding of DFM/DFT for embedded systems or custom boards.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, especially while working with teams remotely.
- Should be able to collect and communicate data through proposals and presentations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment and taking ownership across design, ops, and supply chain.
- Ability to travel periodically to suppliers or manufacturing sites.
Benefits:
- Flexible hours and virtual friendly work environment.
- Flexible PTO, with no approvals necessary.
- High levels of autonomy, ownership, and growth opportunities.
- In order to give you a personal stake in the success of the company, we would be happy to offer equity as part of your compensation package.
- Compensation: $50-150 per hour depending on experience
