Summary
Job Description
Responsible for overseeing and ensuring adherence to the production schedule and the effective operation of the Stock Fab department related to safety, consistency of procedures and process, quality, productivity, and waste. This individual will also be responsible for safely and effectively operating all machines in stock fab area that are capable of but not limited to shearing, punching, notching or trimming structural shapes and plates, as well as machines that drill single or multiple holes. Also sets up and operates horizontal band saw to cut straight, curved or irregular metal stock safely and per print for all jobs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Safely set up and operates a variety of production machines including ironworker, drill press, band saw, plasma tube cutter, laser table, punch press, deburring tools, and sanding equipment, to ensure parts meet print specifications and standard time.
- Assist with set up, read and interpret blueprints and job travelers to select proper tooling and/or fixtures, spacers, etc.
- Safely operate machines per guidelines, standard practices, and/or work instructions to produce parts to specifications in desired standard times.
- Reads work order and/or blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerances and specific type of material to cut. Verify dimensions and material on work order match dimensions and material called out on print. Measure and layout part length as needed.
- Sets up saw for desired speed and feed to achieve correct cut and quantities.
- Verifies first piece to print and completes inspection documentation as required.
- Reviews, completes and submits all job paperwork to appropriate personnel.
- Maintains good general housekeeping, a clean and safe work environment free of trash and debris.
- Follows all safety rules for the Stock Fab Department and Company
- May train new hires for the department.
- Periodically perform inspections to verify the quality of product in Stock Fab.
- Works with other departments to troubleshoot and correct process deficiencies and eliminate waste.
- Communicates timely with supervision all issues regarding form, fit, and function in Stock Fab, risk of not meeting the schedule; and issues regarding resource and/or personnel affecting safety, quality, or output.
- Reviews work orders to ensure all required items/resources are available to complete daily activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education And/or Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training in a similar environment. Ability to read and interpret documents, instructions, and procedure manuals; above average oral and verbal communication skills, math skills and the ability to read a tape measure to the 32nd’s of an inch.

Physical Environment And Personal Protective Equipment
The Machine Operator will be required to perform physical tasks associated with working on a production floor and must be able to stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods of time (8-10 hours per shift), frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Regularly required to use hands and arms to operate machinery, handle materials, and perform repetitive tasks such as bending and stooping. Visual acuity to inspect parts and read measurements, including close vision, depth perception, and color differentiation. Tolerate exposure to noise, vibrations, dust, odors, and temperature variations common to a production floor environment. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, gloves, and other job-specific gear.
