We’re seeking a hands-on, technically skilled Supervisor to lead our utility plant operations team at a major campus site in Baton Rouge. This role blends operational oversight with team development, compliance, and strategic optimization. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments, leads by example, and brings a proactive approach to safety, scheduling, and system performance.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee daily operations of steam boilers, chillers, turbines, generators, and future CHP systems
• Supervise and mentor a team of unionized plant operators, fostering skill growth and collaboration
• Maintain shift schedules, payroll, overtime distribution, and compliance documentation
• Lead training programs on plant systems, safety protocols, and operational best practices
• Coordinate maintenance, shutdowns, and repairs using CMMS tools
• Monitor system performance and implement strategies to optimize energy efficiency
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and external utility partners to meet plant goals
• Ensure full compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards
• Respond during emergency events including hurricanes, storms, and other disruptions
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in utilities, HVAC, energy, chemical, or industrial environments
• Strong leadership and communication skills in unionized settings
• Technical expertise in boilers, chillers, cooling towers, RO systems, switchgear, and CHP systems
• Experience with HMI systems, water lab testing, and safe chemical handling
• Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory frameworks
• Ability to analyze performance data and drive operational improvements
• Universal EPA refrigerant certification preferred or ability to obtain
