Job Summary
The General Manager, West US oversees all operational, financial, and strategic functions of our nondestructive testing and inspection services business across the Western United States. This role is accountable for driving regional profitability, ensuring consistent service delivery, and maintaining the highest safety and quality standards. You will lead and develop a team of field inspectors and support staff while partnering closely with the Chief Executive Officer to implement growth initiatives and expand market share. This role is responsible for regional workforce planning, succession planning, and talent development to ensure bench strength for key technical and leadership roles. You will also be the primary escalation point for major client issues, contract disputes, and emergency response coordination. Regular travel throughout the Western US region is required to cultivate client relationships, optimize field operations, and identify new business opportunities. This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute West US strategies to meet revenue, margin, and service-level goals across the region.
- Own the regional P&L: build annual budgets, forecast performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions to safeguard profitability.
- Cultivate and expand relationships with key accounts—including EPC firms, petrochemical and manufacturing clients, utilities, and O&G operators—to drive repeat and referral business.
- Ensure full compliance with nondestructive testing and inspection standards and codes (ASNT, AWS, API, ISO, NRC) and maintain up-to-date certifications across the region.
- Lead safety and quality programs by overseeing root-cause analyses, corrective action plans, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives to minimize incidents and uphold 100% service integrity.
- Oversee all field operations: optimize technician schedules, resource allocation, equipment readiness, and travel logistics to maximize utilization and on-time delivery.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and mentor field technicians, inspectors, and support staff; conduct performance reviews, establish career paths, and drive a culture of accountability and professional growth.
- Partner with Business Development to identify new market opportunities, prepare technical proposals, participate in bid reviews, and support contract negotiations.
- Represent the West US region at industry conferences, regulatory forums, client meetings, and trade associations to elevate the company’s profile and gather market intelligence.
- Collaborate closely with the CEO, President, and cross-functional leadership (Finance, HR, Operations, and Sales) to align regional initiatives with corporate objectives.
- Regularly travel throughout the West US region to engage with clients, inspect sites, and support field teams.
- Deliver monthly regional performance reviews to executive leadership and produce a quarterly strategic business review with actionable KPIs.
- Lead regional equipment lifecycle management including capital planning, preventive maintenance strategy, and calibration program oversight.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in nondestructive testing or inspection services, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience managing multi-state operations.
- Demonstrated experience with digital transformation initiatives such as mobile field data capture, CMMS, or inspection management platforms.
- Certified NDT Level II or equivalent credentials, with expertise in UT, RT, MT, and PT techniques.
- Demonstrated track record of managing divisional P&L, driving revenue growth, and improving margins.
- In-depth knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 75% throughout the West US.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, business intelligence tools, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Commitment to fostering a strong safety culture and applying continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).

Working Conditions
- Based at one of Metals NDT operations branches: Boise, ID or Greeley, CO.
- Ability to travel up to 75% to various regional, field offices, and job sites.
- Periodic weekend or extended hours required to support emergency response, major outages, or critical client projects.
- Role requires occasional exposure to industrial environments including elevated work, confined spaces, and outdoor sites; appropriate PPE and fitness for duty are required.
