Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Manufacturing to join our steel structural tubing company. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, including planning, budgeting for capex and opex, quality control and continuous improvement, materials procurement, labor management, including health and safety and establishing all business systems and processes related to productivity, quality, and material requirements planning.
Essential Job Function & Responsibilities
- Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to improve production efficiency, product quality, and on-time delivery.
- Budgeting: Manage CAPEX and OPEX budget for the manufacturing department, including labor costs, supplies, raw material and maintenance.
- Inventory Management: Managing inventory levels to ensure adequate supply of raw materials and finished products
- Quality: Drive first time quality culture, processes and initiatives within all aspects of the manufacturing process.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives across all manufacturing processes to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Process Management: Establish, implement, and monitor all business processes related to productivity, quality, and MRP.
- Forecasting: Coordinating with Sales and Marketing to ensure production planning goals align with customer and business demands
- Leadership: Lead, motivate, and develop an operational and technical team to meet productivity and quality goals.
- Labor Management: Build a high performing team and ensure all operator procedures and processes from production to health and safety are in place and functioning effectively.
Key Goals & Deliverables
- To ensure that the manufacturing operations are efficient, cost-effective, and meet the quality standards and customer expectations.
- To develop and implement manufacturing strategies, policies, and procedures that align with the company’s vision, mission, and goals.
- To manage the manufacturing budget, resources, and inventory, and optimize the use of technology and automation.
- To coordinate with other departments, such as engineering, marketing, sales, and finance, to ensure smooth collaboration and communication.
- To lead, motivate, and mentor the manufacturing staff, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence.
- To monitor and evaluate the manufacturing performance, and identify and resolve any issues or problems that may arise.
- To ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards, and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Requirements And Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 13-15 years of experience in the metal roll-forming industry with experience in steel tubing manufacturing is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, budget management, and MRP systems.
- Experience and knowledge with lean manufacturing processes and strategies including Kaizen and 5S that are critical in lean manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge in metallurgy and welding is a plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

- Stationary Position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day

- Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 10 pounds
- Hearing and Speech: frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far
- Climb: occasionally ascends/descends on stairway to get to office upper and lower floors
- Travel: up to 10% as needed
