Job Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing manufacturing and process solutions that result in continuous improvement of single site industrial manufacturing operation in all areas of safety, quality, delivery/throughput, and cost.
The Manufacturing Engineer will drive process excellence and waste elimination across all manufacturing operations. Using Lean Manufacturing principles, this role develops and sustains efficient, safe, and repeatable processes that improve quality, reduce cost, and increase throughput in a high-mix vocational truck facility. Responsible for troubleshooting production issues requiring engineered solutions, participate in design for manufacturability, and identify tools and design fixtures to support the manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance safety, quality, delivery/throughput, and cost.
- Partner with operations leadership to design layout of equipment or workspaces to improve productivity and throughput.
- Leverage experience in fabrication, paint, welding, hydraulics, and manufacturing assembly to influence improvements throughout.
- Utilize takt time studies, flow diagrams and other operations tools to understand and improve manufacturing operations across the plant.
- Design, install or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues such as bottlenecks, equipment downtime and material use variances.
- Maintain awareness of industry best practices and recommend changes that positively influence manufacturing throughput.
- Analyze production processes, schedules, methods, and other data to provide operations leadership data and statistics to scale manufacturing.
- Partner with product management to improve ‘design for manufacture’
- Adhere to Company policies and procedures and influence accountability.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or similar engineering degree.
- 2+ years in an assembly or heavy-vehicle manufacturing environment. Experience in a high mix, mid volume industrial manufacturing plant operation preferred.
- Manufacturing specialty vocational heavy truck cranes and aerial work platforms highly preferred
- Proven knowledge of Lean tools (5S, Standard Work, VSM, Kaizen, Root Cause analysis, Andon)
- Proven ability to apply continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and quality management concepts and principles
- Experience with fabrication, welding, paint, hydraulics, manufacturing assembly.
- Ability to Mechanical troubleshooting.
- Design layout of equipment or workspaces to improve productivity.
- Demonstrated experience in 2/3D modeling and product design.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations to substantiate design.
- Mechanical aptitude of machines, heavy equipment and tools including their design, use, repair and maintenance.
- Proven understand of engineering drafting standards and practices.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and ERP systems.
- Experience with ERP systems and creating BOMs
