GENERAL PURPOSE
Supports the daily operations of the Killeen Municipal Court by ensuring the orderly conduct of court proceedings, directing defendants and upholding courtroom decorum in accordance with Court regulations. Operates under the supervision of the City Marshal to maintain security and efficient court environment.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
CORE COMPETENCIES
Serves as Bailiff for the Municipal Court.
Ensures the courtroom is prepared and maintained for proceedings by distributing court documents and forms.
Ensures the safety of the Judge, court staff, court lobby, and the public.
Calls court to order and maintains appropriate decorum in court whenever court is in session.
Monitors the courtroom for disturbances and handling disruptive individuals.
Screens individuals for weapons or contraband when entering the courtroom.
Escorts defendants, witnesses and jurors as needed, ensures potential witnesses, defendants, and counsel are separated from jurors prior to and throughout the trials.
Assists with emergency procedures, such as building evacuations, takes emergency action and/or notifies emergency personnel as the situation warrants, may administer basic first aid or CPR if required, evacuates building if necessary.
Monitors and operates security and radio equipment.
Performs general office support work, deliver or pick-up documents and other materials and assist the Judge or Court Administrator in other ways as instructed.
Opens and closes the City-Annex building as directed by the City Marshal.
Assists with Warrant Processing.
Reacts to emergencies and utilizes independent judgment in dealing with sensitive situations.
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
- Two (2) years prior security experience, or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Ability to learn and explain applicable laws, and ordinances.
- Ability to work with local law enforcement agency (KPD).
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with peers and
supervisors.
- Ability to deal courteously but firmly with citizens.
- Ability to adapt to constant change.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
Special Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license by date of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days of hire.
- Must obtain Texas State Court Security Officer certificate within one (1) year from date of hire.

Mainframe computer system, PC and specialized software, ; 10-key calculator; typewriter, telephone, copy machine; scanner; postage machine; and fax machine.
