Job Description
The Plant Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of our concrete block manufacturing in
Douglassville, PA. This role aims to optimize production processes, manage resources effectively, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall plant performance. Our Plant Manager must be a strong hands-on leader that delivers results.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage resources (people, equipment, materials) to ensure efficient operations.
- When machinery breaks down or production bottlenecks occur, they must quickly find and assign resources to efficiency troubleshoot issues.
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow and enforce all safety regulations.
- Utilize data from reports to identify areas of improvement, reduce waste, reduce breakdowns, and improve efficiency.
- Lead the daily operations of a 24/7 concrete block production facility.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve production efficiencies and quality targets
- Constant product verification to ensure superior quality and reduce scrap & waste.
- Assist in the repair, construction and maintenance of the production equipment and facility.
- Hands-on leadership on the factory floor and lead teams through troubleshooting and breakdowns.
- Propose, estimate and manage capital improvement projects to improve efficiency, quality and safety.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers; negotiates pricing, defines scope of work and contract terms.
- Oversee all levels of staff activity and performance.
- Develop and execute manufacturing strategies aligned with company objectives and directions from upper management.
- Hire, train and supervise team members, providing guidance and support to ensure they are successful.
- Facilitate regular operational meetings to review KPI metrics and planned improvements.
- Work with planning to optimize output. i.e.- product changeovers, machine set ups, etc.
- Plan with maintenance to determine the best time to repair, replace or complete preventive maintenance.
- Partner with HR to develop training programs and ensure succession plan.
- Define roles and responsibilities for direct reports and establish short term and long-term objectives.
- Develop and promote key players.
- Ensures the production areas maintain a clean, well-organized environment through 5S and continuous improvement activities.
- Implement change by eliminating non-valued added activities.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of work experience in a production or operations management position
- B.S. in engineering, business management or related discipline preferred
- Excellent proven people leadership and change management skills
- Able to hold others accountable
- Mechanically inclined with excellent trouble shooting skills.
- Basic knowledge of electrical control systems and troubleshooting.
- Strong abilities in planning, organizing, project management, and problem solving
- Able to adjust hours to lead and support a 24/7 manufacturing facility
- Ability to influence metrics through planned decision making
- Experience with D365, Microsoft AX or Microsoft Power BI a plus
- Experienced in equipment operation and maintenance
