Position Overview
The Director of Operations is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of manufacturing operations at the facility. This position manages the Operations Manager and is accountable for driving performance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across production. The Director ensures alignment between day-to-day execution and long-term business goals, while fostering a culture of safety, food compliance, and efficiency.
The role reports to the VP of Operations and collaborates closely with facility leadership to implement best practices and maintain a high-performing, accountable workforce. Responsibilities include policy development, resource planning, performance analysis, and adherence to food safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee all production activities, ensuring output and quality goals are met.
- Align production schedules and resource planning across departments.
- Analyze operational data (e.g., efficiency reports, lab analysis, waste metrics) to identify improvement areas.
- Support development of tools and systems like Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) to drive asset optimization.
Team Development & Strategic Execution
- Provide daily support to the Operations Manager, focusing on leadership development and strategic alignment.
- Mentor and coach leaders to build team communication, accountability, and performance.
- Lead budgeting activities to optimize resource investments and product quality.
Policy, Procedure & Continuous Improvement
- Define and implement operational goals, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Maintenance, HR, QA, Purchasing, and others to ensure alignment.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and problem-solving methodologies.
Workforce Planning & Readiness
- Partner with HR to align staffing and training strategies with department needs.
- Coordinate operational readiness for product trials and launches.
- Ensure safety and sanitation standards are consistently met.
- Champion 5S principles and support a culture of ownership and cleanliness.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred.
- 12+ years of operations or manufacturing experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong background in food production, team management, and continuous improvement strategies is highly preferred.
- Prior experience with metrics like OEE and systems such as EAM is a plus.
