Summary
The Manager of Food Engineering- Converting is responsible for managing research, development, and optimization for Sartori’s converted products with a focus on process design and specification of equipment impacting product attributes. This position will manage a team of Food Engineers and Packaging Engineers to execute and deliver on projects related to long-term innovation, quality improvement, new line installations, line enhancements, and process optimization. This position is responsible for developing and owning the process for assessing and handing off capital projects to Manufacturing Engineering. This will require working closely with Long-term Innovation, Cheesemake R&D, Product Development Operations, and Engineering to bridge the gap from concept to commissioning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following with other duties assigned as needed.
- Leads a team of Food Engineers and Packaging Engineers to execute process development for R&D projects: creates test plans, running pilot and full-scale trials, performing data analysis, generating process specifications & process manuals, and provides technical expertise/troubleshooting guidance.
- Accountable for the development and maintenance of the Form, Fit, and Function template and process for Capital projects. This process will provide scoping for overall product, process, and packaging requirements when capital projects are handed off to Manufacturing Engineering.
- Serves as project sponsor for the form, fit, function step for Capital Projects. Works with Product Development, Engineering, Marketing, and Sartori Leadership to sign off on the scope.
- Accountable for process design and equipment specifications for equipment parameters impacting product requirements on all Satori converted product streams.
- Serves as a Core or Consult team member for Capital projects.
- Leads the identification & evaluation of processing technologies and provides technical solutions and consultation to support the creation and execution of strategic product technology pipelines.
- Identifies and recommends new opportunities for enhanced manufacturing capabilities by modifying processes, expanding product formats, or enhancing productivity.
- Advises and consults with Engineering, R&D, Quality, and Operations on projects. Serves as Core and Consult team member for Capital projects, product development, quality, and operations projects.
- Provides guidance on R&D and Capital project timelines and resource availability.
- Provides budgetary Capital equipment costs and high-level process design, including PFD (process flow diagrams).
- Manages stakeholders, communication, scope changes, timelines, and directives from leadership.
- Coaches team on technical and personal development.
- Complies with company safety, HACCP, and GMP policies during plant trials and other plant activities.
- Delivers against set R&D and Sartori company metrics and initiatives.
DIRECT REPORTS
This position directly coordinates and supervises team members in the Process R&D group.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Engineering, Food Science, Dairy Technology, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field is required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in food-related product and process development is required. Experience with dairy is preferred.

Additional Information
WORK LOCATION
This position will work out of our Pleasant View office in Plymouth, WI, and may work a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office / 2 days remote); candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel is required to meet the needs of the business (up to 25%). A valid driver’s license is required.
