Infection Prevention Nurse to enrich the lives of our residents.
Position: RN Infection Preventionist
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for identifying, managing, and implementing infection prevention and control measures within the facility. The role involves collecting and analyzing infection-related data, educating staff, and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations to minimize the risk of infection transmission.
Main Job Responsibilities
- Identify and maintain effective methods to gather infection prevention and control related information.
- Coordinate and monitor monthly departmental infection control rounds processes.
- Collect, analyze and provide infection information on in-house infections to nursing staff and other healthcare practitioners.
- Investigate and identify control procedures and risk minimizing measures, including employee health transmission and risk.
- Monitor appropriateness or precautionary procedures for individual patients.
- Maintain records of infections, procedures, outcomes related to infections and risk assessment, prevention and minimizing activities.
- Coordinate completion of ongoing immunization tracking activities and implement measures to improve compliance, including influence, pneumococcal and tuberculosis.
- Review infection and prevalence rates monthly providing recommendations to the Infection Control or Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Committee.
- Recommend education for employees and other healthcare practitioners to minimize, prevent and control infections.
- Educate newly hired center staff on infection prevention and control techniques including hand hygiene, blood borne pathogens, PPE utilization and sharps handling.
- Collaborate with Administrator, Medical Director or his/her designee, DON and Department managers on infection prevention and control protocols and practices.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources Director on exposure control plan and follow-up.
- Evaluate the availability of materials and equipment for infection prevention and control.
- Coordinate outbreak investigations with the Director of Nursing and Medical Director
- Monitor change sin state and federal regulations and current industry-stand practices.
- Contact state and local health departments, for specific regional guidelines, such as tuberculosis, outbreak investigations, etc.
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Committee.
- Complete annual tuberculosis risk survey.
- Prepare recommendations for changes in center practice to the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committe
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania
- Previous Staff Development, Infection Control or Nurse Management experience
- 3 years of previous skilled nursing experience
- Knowledge/familiarity of state and federal survey processes
- Knowledge/familiarity of state and federal regulations
